Antarctic
From the outpost town of Ushuaia, the worlds southernmost town at the tip of South America, we head down the Beagle Channel, flanked by mountains and courted by seabirds, and head into the Southern Ocean across the Drake Passage. While the Drakes reputation is fearsome, storms tend to pass through quickly, and weve had numerous crossings where the Drake displayed its alter ego: the Drake Lake! Our stable and comfortable ships cope admirably with whatever conditions the Drake presents. With the constant accompaniment of a profusion of seabirds
A great introduction to Antarctica well explore the South Shetland Islands and the bays and islands of the Antrctic peninsula with as much time off the ship as possible
including the majestic albatross our education program gets underway during the crossing. The South Shetland Islands and the waterways of the Antarctic Peninsula form one of the most spectacular wilderness areas on earth and the wildlife is overwhelmingly prolific. Well see five species of seals, massive rookeries of Adelie, chinstrap and gentoo penguins, as well as whales and countless seabirds. Responding to the weather conditions and passenger interests, no two of our voyages are the same as we seek new and favourite areas to cruise in the Zodiacs, visit rookeries or scientific stations, or hike ashore.
